The Rodelio Mallari Family - Philippines, Island of Luzon
ABOUT BRO. RODELIO MALLARI & HIS MINISTRIES IN THE PHILIPPINES
Bro. Rodelio Mallari is 49 years old. He has been happily married for 25 years. He and his wife Elizabeth (49 y.o.) have six wonderful children, namely: Abigail (24 y.o.), Genesis (22 y.o.), Ezekiel (20 y.o.), Jeremy (18 y.o.), Stephanie (15 y.o.), and Sharon (12 y.o.).
· He was saved and born again by the amazing grace and tender mercy of God on May 27, 1984, a beautiful Sunday morning. Prior to his saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, he lived like the devil. He was addicted to alcohol, tobacco and drugs; and was a vile fornicator and sinner! He even got involved in a gang that was into small-time drug trafficking around Angeles City. However, the Lord Jesus had marvelously cleansed him with His precious blood and made him a new creature in Christ.
· Bro. Mallari has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering (1986). He took and passed the 1987 Philippine Licensure Examinations for Civil Engineers. He also has a Master of Divinity (1992) studies from the Asian Theological Seminary.
· He was called by the Lord to preach in 1988. He was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel in April 1990.
· In May 1991, after much prayer and confirmation of God’s will, he gave up a very promising career as a Presidential Staff Officer in the Administration of former Philippine President Corazon Aquino to devote more time to his serious study and ministry of God’s word.
· He is very fluent in three languages, namely: English, Filipino (or Tagalog) and and Kapampangan. He also speaks a little conversational Spanish.
· With the Lord’s help and provision, it is Bro. Mallari’s ultimate desire to be used of the Lord to translate the entire Authorized King James Version of 1611 into the national language of the Filipino people – Tagalog, which is understood by the majority of our 94 million people. Since May 2011, he has devoted three days a week for his prayerful and careful translation of the Bible. He would usually continue working till the late hours past midnight, often oblivious of the passing of time.
· Since February 2004, he has been translating soul-winning comic book tracts for Chick Publications of California, USA during his spare time. To date, he has already translated a total of 32 Chick tract titles and is working on more into Tagalog.
· In the summer of 2006, Bro. Mallari translated the script of the American evangelistic film “Light of the World” also by Chick Publications. He personally directed the dubbing of the same film into Tagalog. It was released on July 2006 and is now available in DVD/VCD formats.
· He also co-produced and translated into Filipino two short evangelistic video presentations: “In 100 Years...Where Will You Be” (2010); and “When Death Comes Knocking” (2011). Both videos are being distributed and circulated free to local churches in the Philippines. They are also available for online viewing at YouTube.
· He is computer literate, an avid reader, a bonsai enthusiast, an advanced chess player, an amateur photographer, and an amateur website-builder.
· Since 1988, he has been a missionary-pastor-teacher-evangelist and a much sought after King James Bible Conference speaker. He not only preaches in churches and auditoriums but in the streets, markets, malls, parking areas, and public places.
· By the grace of God, Bro. Mallari started two rural churches from scratch in the Province of Pampanga, Luzon Island. He ministered to both churches for ten years each as their first pastor. These churches are: (1) Bible Believers’ Baptist Church (1988-98) in Magalang town; (2) Blessed Hope Baptist Church (1998-2008) in Porac town. Both local churches are very much alive and well and steadily growing in the Lord today under the leadership of his trained preachers and church workers.
· Currently an itinerant evangelist, he sometimes travels our islands to speak in churches, camps, revivals, and conferences nationwide.
· He occasionally teaches some pastoral and theological subjects to equip native preachers and workers in their church-based extension Bible Institute classes.
· He infrequently writes and contributes sermons, articles and devotional material for Christian papers in the Central Luzon area.
· Bro. Mallari has been a regular sermon contributor to SermonCentral.com which is probably the world's largest online sermon database to date.
· He was host and Bible teacher for "It is Written!" -- a one-hour live weekly Gospel Radio Broadcast which aired from March 2006 till it had to bid farewell to listeners in November 2008 due to ministry funds constraints. The program was broadcasted over DWGV, a local radio station that had a potential listener target of 10 million Filipinos in the 13 provinces of Luzon, the largest of the Philippine island groups.
· Bro. Mallari is the Founding Director and regular Bible Teacher of “Send the Light Ministries” a faith evangelistic and teaching ministry that prayerfully endeavors to reach out to our 8 million dispersed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) via free distribution of Filipino Gospel CD’s, cassette tapes and evangelistic literature.
· In January 2010 he finally realized his long-term vision of establishing a basic Local Printing Press that would hopefully make it possible in the future to supply free Bibles, books, hymnals, Sunday school materials, Gospel literature, etc. to the poorest of the poor among our Filipino Christian brethren. The Lord has miraculously supplied a refurbished 25-year old Offset Printing Press (a Solna 125), a Manual Paper Cutter and an improvised Plate Maker that are still in good working condition.
· Another blessed addition to his major projects is his vision of building a small shelter for the distressed, abandoned and orphaned children of Guimaras Island. It is by God's grace that a land has been generously provided in 2010 by the Christian brethren in Guimaras, Central Philippines. To date, this on-going project is about 85% completed. As with the printing press, it will be up to the Lord to supply all the needs for the shelter in His perfect time and will. Though only partially operational, the shelter is already host to five young children and an infant.
· Due to the calling and departure of their pastor to another local mission field in Nueva Ecija Province, the congregation of Blessed Hope Baptist Church called Bro. Mallari to be their Interim Pastor in July 2011. He gladly accepted the offer of his former church for an indefinite period.
· Bro. Mallari has never been among the well-known national preachers and workers of God in the Philippines. He is virtually unknown by the greater majority of Filipino brethren as he usually loves to work low-key and almost unnoticed.
· He has never been affiliated with any Missions Board. His humble efforts for the Lord have never been regularly supported by any local or foreign Christian funding agencies. He has a support-base of a handful of like-minded Christian families and a few local churches that believe in what he does and stand for the Lord.
· In order to support his growing family, he has to work two part time jobs (as private tutor and research assistant) on top of his increasing ministerial labors. As such, it is definitely not easy to carry on the ministries God has placed upon his shoulders.
· In light of the above information, your prayers, support and encouragement for this brother in the Lord and his family will be very much appreciated. Please remember him in prayer as the Lord brings the Philippines to your mind. Pray especially for his health as he has Diabetes and occasional bouts of TB.
APRIL TO JUNE 2011 PRAYER NEWSLETTER
Dear Praying Friends & Brethren:
Greetings from Angeles City, Philippine Islands! I have once again gleaned highlights of family and ministry events from my journal demonstrating the grace of our Lord upon us. May this long and detailed report bring warmth to your hearts and persuade you to remember and uphold us daily before God’s throne of grace. Your families, churches and ministries are ever in our Daily Prayer List.
FAMILY MATTERS: The month of May saw me celebrate my 27th spiritual birthday. I was saved and born again by the grace and mercy of God on May 27, 1984, a beautiful Sunday morning. Prior to my saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, I lived like the devil. I was addicted to alcohol, tobacco and drugs; and a vile fornicator and sinner! I even got involved in a gang that was into small-time drug trafficking. However, the Lord had marvelously cleansed me with His precious blood and made me a new creature in Christ. Amen!
The month of May also saw four family members celebrate their physical birthdays: May 3rd (Genesis – 22 y.o.); May 9th (Myself – 49 y.o.); May 13th (Sharon – 12 y.o.); and May 15th (Stephanie – 15 y.o.). Praise God for His loving kindness to our family! This time we had a joint thanksgiving celebration by way of a simple dinner out with the whole family. The family outing was provided for as a special gift from dear Christian friends.
We are also grateful and happy that our son Ezekiel has returned home from his 3 ½ months on-the-job training abroad. He arrived home safe but quite tired on the evening of June 27th. While he was in Hawaii, he found a loving and caring spiritual home and an extended family in a likeminded Filipino Baptist church there. Thanks be unto the Lord for His providential care of Ezekiel, and thank you likewise for praying for him.
11th CHURCH ANNIVERSARY: Our church (Blessed Hope Baptist) celebrated its 11th founding anniversary on April 17th. As its pioneering missionary and first pastor, I was asked by the brethren to reconstruct and retell our Church History so the newer and younger members will be inspired by the goodness and mercy of the Lord through the years. It might interest you to know that during the last 11 years, our little flock relocated to 5 different places (2 towns and 2 cities) during its first 5 years of existence! In 2006 the Lord miraculously provided the land and building where the present church now rests. Should the Lord tarry, we look forward to many more opportunities of bringing the Gospel of Christ to the lost and equipping the saints for the work of the ministry. May the Lord be ever exalted and magnified by our feeble labors!
SUMMER DVBS: From April 19-23 we conducted our Summer Daily Vacation Bible School. There were over 80 children which were divided into four classes. At the graduation ceremony, certificates of completion, Bibles, gifts, and medals were awarded to our happy kids. There were several parents in attendance who clearly heard the Gospel message at the graduation service, though none of them made a profession of faith in Christ. Please pray for the children so that the seed of God’s word that was sown in their young hearts will grow and bear fruit abundantly.
LENTEN SEASON: We printed a special batch of 5,000 Filipino tracts for this season. They were distributed in our personal witness, from house to house, street work, mail boxes, bus terminals, shopping malls, schools, etc. As you may already know, the Catholic “Holy Week” is a much-awaited annual holiday in the Philippines (Asia's foremost Catholic country). It features fasting, abstinence, solemn meditations, chanting, almsgiving, and in extreme cases, pitiful and blasphemous self-flagellation and crucifixions under a blistering 104-degree F summer sun!
If you can bear with clear amateur videos; and sights of half-naked, bloody men do not make you sick; you might wish to get a glimpse of this year’s traditional “Holy Week” rituals in our city and province through the following YouTube links:
Bloody Holy Week in Angeles City, Pampanga (Time: 8 mins, 35 secs): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0GQUMYaJ6U

PUBLIC EVANGELISTIC MINISTRY: Though our Street Preaching Team has become a familiar sight at the Angeles City Shopping District since 2006, it never ceases to arouse the curiosity of passing motorists and pedestrians. My sons and I along with five other faithful men in our church take turns preaching open-air, witnessing, and holding up giant scripture banners; while the ladies and young people passed out Filipino comic tracts. Unfortunately, our recent efforts have been literally dampened by incessant monsoon rains for the most part. Nevertheless, the Lord has allowed us some opportunities to preach and witness to the multitudes on a few rainless days.
Over 6,000 Chick tracts were prayerfully distributed in our recent street work. There was even one young man who literally asked how he could be saved from Hell. He was led to the Lord and prayed to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour -- right there at the street gutter! (Luke 15:7, 10) On separate occasions, there were also anonymous persons who sent in text messages saying that they have “repented of their sins and prayed to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour!” Amen and Amen!!
We have just acquired another 3 brand new and colorful giant scripture banners (5 feet x 6 feet in size) to add to the other 9 that we have on reserve. Please pray for good weather especially during Sunday afternoons when we usually do open-air street work and tract distribution in the shopping districts and public places. Except for a few unruly hecklers and drunks, and also drivers honking annoyingly, we have never been severely harassed or hurt by anyone, thanks to the Lord’s protection and the Angeles City Police Department (ACPD) with whom we enjoy a good rapport. We have always assured and convinced our local authorities that our public ministry is a potential deterrent for would-be criminals; and that we are a voice crying for moral and spiritual change. We also thank God for the kind manager of the Philippine National Bank who has continually allowed us to use their parking space as staging area every weekend since March 2006.
GUIMARAS ORPHANAGE: My co-founder of God’s Shelter for Orphans and Homeless Children, Pastor Winston White and his wife Jane, administer our orphanage in Guimaras Island. The couple has very recently informed me that the orphans are most fine, both physically and spiritually. They have never been as happy in their lives since they found solace in a real Christian home! The older orphans have all been enrolled and been back to school since it opened on June 6th. Please continue praying for the development of our Orphanage Project which sadly stopped and got stuck at 85% completion in January. Voluntary donations for the continuation of this project are quite scarce.
Please pray for the Lord’s provision for about Php 650,000 (US$ 15,000) to purchase the following indispensable furnishings and finally operate our Orphanage Building: (1) Electrification; (2) Overhead Water Tank and Plumbing; (3) Aluminum and Glass Windows; (4) Wooden Partitions; (5) Toilets and Bathrooms; (6) Bigger Kitchen; (7) Floor Tiles; (8) Paints; (9) Furnitures; and (10) Appliances. Thanks in advance for your much-needed intercessions on these matters of concern.
PRINTING MINISTRY: Despite our low sales-at-cost during the second quarter of 2011, we were able to scrape some funds and print another 10,000 copies of two new Gospel comic titles: Creator or Liar and Holy Joe. This last printing was made possible by our limited sales plus donations which trickled in from our church members and friends of our ministry. We are likewise in the process of raising P120,000 (about $2,800) to purchase a used but indispensable Automatic Paper Cutting Machine to upgrade our basic printing equipment. Our fund-raising to this end has now the equivalent of about $600.
BIBLE CORRESPONDENCE COURSE: I have also been looking into several very promising Bible correspondence courses for possible translation into Filipino (or Tagalog). As the Lord supplies the ways and means, we would like to offer them free in the future, both to the saved and the lost. Speaking of correspondence courses, in case some of you are looking for an excellent, versatile, “through-the-Bible” correspondence course, I highly recommend Dr. J. G. Williams’ New Zealand Correspondence School of the Bible. Enrolment is quick, easy and FREE! Their website is at: http://www.nzcsb.org.nz/ .
GOSPEL TRACT PUBLISHING: To date, we have 20 in-stock Filipino tract titles plus 4 more in the works. Since February 2004, I have already translated and revised a total of 32 Chick tracts into Tagalog during my spare time. We will hopefully print them all locally as the Lord supplies the ways and means. Moreover, I await the proofreading layouts of another two of my recently completed Filipino comic tracts from the artists at Chick Publications-USA. These are: Who is He? and Some Like It Hot. Our online Tagalog comic tract versions can be accessed and read in full from this link: http://www.chick.com/catalog/tractlistCustomWCovers.asp?q=46&Language=Tagalog.
EVANGELISTIC VIDEO PROJECTS: We have finalized the Tagalog versions of two short evangelistic presentations and uploaded them to YouTube. As with our very first 80-minute Filipino DVD project, The Light of the World, we will effectively show these two new videos not only in the internet, but also in churches, homes, schools, buses, hospitals, prisons, police headquarters, military camps, government offices, and villages where people are gathered and willing to hear us out present the Gospel. Please remember pray for God’s blessing on these little on-going video projects. Please pray that they may be used of God’s Spirit to convict and save precious souls wherever and whenever they are seen.

FILIPINO BIBLE TRANSLATION PROJECT: Now that three of our major languages -- Cebuano (Bro. Sulapas & Co.), Ilocano (Bro. Quitevis & Co), and Hiligaynon (Bro. Vournas & Co.) -- have their own complete KJB scriptures, I am provoked to "godly jealousy" in my heart with their translators. While Filipino (or Tagalog) is our national language (understood by a majority of our 94 million people), it sadly remains without a complete KJB counterpart in existence. I am now fully persuaded and prepared that God is leading me to pursue my long-overdue dream of translating the old King James Bible into Filipino, even if it takes the rest of my lifetime!
God knows my heart that I have no illusion and desire of being “great or popular” in undertaking such a long overdue work as the Filipino KJB Project. Mine is just a feeble effort to encourage other more qualified KJB-believing brethren to realize the importance of having God’s true word into our national language. I have read about and seen films of the lives and works of godly scholars like John Wycliffe, William Tyndale, etc. Truly those men of God are a personal inspiration to me! I am convinced that the Lord will supply reinforcements in terms of manpower and logistics as His work progresses in the months and years to come. Amen!
Lord giving me better health, wisdom and zeal, I intend to first revise our existing Tagalog NT against all odds. I have during the last couple of months worked on the books of John & Romans after which I intend to proceed along with the remaining 25 NT books. By God's grace, I envision a Parallel English – Filipino KJB Study Bible (with cross references). Of course, given my present circumstances, this is apparently an impossible dream, but with God all things are possible! I humbly urge you to please continue praying for me as I work 45-50 hours a week on this huge and extremely worthwhile project.
BIBLE TRANSLATION SUPPORT GROUP: In May I made contact with Pastor Ruben Sulapas, the chief translator of the Cebuano KJB. I am now in league with him and his able Translation Team in Iligan City, Mindanao Island. Incidentally, their printing equipment, technology and experience are years ahead of ours. Since they also understand Tagalog, they will be helping me in the proofreading and encoding of the work. They will also do the pre-press layout when my entire Tagalog KJNT is finally completed. Thanks to the internet, the exchange of data is fast and effectively convenient. Lord willing, Bro. Sulapas is coming to meet me personally and will speak in our church on July 22. By then, we would have devised a program of work for my on-going Filipino KJB Project. We are looking into three years minimum just for the completion of the Tagalog KJNT alone. We would really appreciate your prayers and support on this matter.
RETURN AS INTERIM PASTOR: I have returned and was warmly welcomed as Interim Pastor of Blessed Hope Baptist Church on July 3, 2011. My successor, Pastor Albert Cruz, has resigned after three years of faithful pastorate. Lord willing, he and his family will do missions work and start an independent Baptist church in their hometown of San Isidro, Nueva Ecija Province. Brother Cruz will be gladly commissioned, assisted and supported as home missionary by our church. Please pray for him and his family in their transition period. Sadly, none of the remaining trained men at BHBC desire to take up the pastorate. BHBC also prefers not to call in an outsider to be its new pastor. So for the love of Christ and His church, I was constrained to step in. There are several time-consuming matters that needed to be set in order during the transfer of church leadership. Pray for me as I would be doing the work of at least two men in light of my on-going Filipino KJB translation and other ministry projects.
CHURCH WEBSITE IN THE MAKING: I have been trying to squeeze a little bit more time late at nights to build a website that would present our church and ministries over the internet. I have already obtained a cheap web-domain and site host. The “test site” can be viewed at: http://www.bhbc-stlm-1611.com/. The “bhbc” in the URL stands for “Blessed Hope Baptist Church” and the “stlm” for “Send the Light Ministries.” I will keep you posted on our website as I make progress slowly but surely.
ONLINE SERMONS: To date, I have already posted 120 of my sermon notes at SermonCentral.com. I also have audio versions for each of those 120 sermons, but they are all in the Filipino language. Sorry, only the sermon notes are in English. If you care to browse or read any of them, you can access my sermon list at: http://www.sermoncentral.com/Sermons/SearchResults.asp?Keyword=Rodelio%20Mallari&TopicID=0&ScriptureBookA=&ScriptureVerse=
I would be very grateful to you if you can put a rating to any of my sermons anywhere from one to five stars. If you wish, I can e-mail you a MS-Word document or a PDF version of any of the 120 sermon notes for your personal Bible study.
Dear brethren, please continue fervently praying for wisdom and strength on my behalf as I have so many Christ-honoring ideas and cost-effective projects that I would really like to undertake, but sadly funds, manpower and quality time are scarce -- especially as I still have to work part-time jobs to support my family. Please do not get me wrong. I am in no way complaining at all, but just wanted to let you know about my situation so you could pray more specifically for me. Thank you for your understanding.
If by chance, you know of like-minded churches that can spare us their used (but in good condition) Hymnals (preferably Great Hymns of the Faith), please do refer our church to them. We are badly in need of at least 60 identical hymnals for our congregational singing. We are very sorry we do not have the funds to help pay for the shipping of the indispensable hymnals. Thank you for whatever you can do to this end.
Dear brethren and friends, Once again, we thank you all for continually believing in us and the cause of Christ in the Philippines. Our family and compatriots in the Lord send their warmest Christian greetings to you. We love you and pray for you often at home and in church. Phil. 1:2-6; Heb. 6:10!! Godspeed and God bless you!
Faithfully yours in Christ Jesus,
Bro. Rodelio D. Mallari & Family

JANUARY TO MARCH 2011 PRAYER NEWSLETTER
Dear Praying Brethren and Friends,
Hello from Angeles City, Philippine Islands! It is an awesome testimony to the graciousness of our Heavenly Father that He has seen us all through the first quarter of 2011. Thank you for your prayers and encouragement which are extremely crucial to our work and the cause of Christ in this part of the world. We are quite pleased to be able to send another detailed account of our major activities covering the months of January to March.
FAMILY MATTERS: Our third eldest son (Ezekiel) was among the students in their college chosen for the International Student and Exchange Visitor Program (ISEVP). He was issued a U.S. J-1 Visa and will be spending four months in Maui, Hawaii. He will be studying and training to earn some college credits for his final year in the Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) course. Lord willing, he will be back by the end of July. While the ISEVP has provided for the board and lodging of Ezekiel, we needed to raise funds for his round trip airline tickets and pocket money as our counterpart. Praise God, some good Christian friends and relatives have been so kind and generous to send us financial aid in raising the much-needed funds for Ezekiel. We were able to complete the deficit in time through a bank loan with a small interest. Please pray for Ezekiel’s safety and progress as this is the first time he has ever been out of the country.
By the Lord’s care and protection, Ezekiel and his companions landed in Hawaii just in the nick of time. It was March 11th – the day of the dreadful 8.9 earthquake over Sendai, Japan. Their plane was among the last ones granted landing access before all others were shut out of the airport. During the Pacific Tsunami Alert, they were stranded in Honolulu but were able to evacuate to higher ground. By the grace of God, Ezekiel and his companions are well. They have been training for a month in Maui Island now. Thank you for your prayers for our son.
ZERO SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS: Surprisingly, in my 23-year preaching career, this was the very first time I have ever experienced not getting any speaking invitations for 4 straight months (January to April)! Of course, this is not to say that nobody wants me around their churches anymore! Rather, perhaps the good Lord wanted my lungs and vocal chords to take it easy after my second bout with TB.
NEW EVANGELISTIC PROJECTS: By the grace of God, I was able to compensate my lack of preaching and teaching engagements by undertaking and focusing on a few overdue projects. Among them are two new evangelistic videos and an improved revision of our John/Romans booklet. The Gospel of John vividly presents the Person of Christ while the Epistle to the Romans gives a clear understanding of the Work of Christ. The booklet will have specially marked verses and will be printed in 13-point giant-print fonts for easy reading. It will be circulated for free distribution in our home visitations, prison work, follow-up, and other evangelistic work. As soon as the Lord supplies the funds, our print shop will work on this new edition with 5,000 copies.
With the kind permission of the author, Bro. Ryan Olson of Bible Senders – USA, I have expanded on and revised his evangelistic videos to adapt it to Filipino audiences. If you want a peek preview of the original English versions of the two videos I translated, they can be viewed in the following links:
Video #1 (9 mins): In 100 Years... Where Will You Be?: http://www.onetruemedia.com/otm_site/view_shared?p=a37d59a3c2d745bac336c1

When both videos are finalized, they will be uploaded to YouTube along with my Filipino versions. As with our very first 80-minute Filipino video project Light of the World (2006), we will effectively show these new videos not only in the internet, but also in homes, schools, buses, hospitals, prisons, police headquarters, military camps, government offices, and villages where people are gathered and willing to hear us out present the Gospel. Please remember pray for God’s blessing on these little projects. Please pray that they may be used of God’s Spirit to convict and save precious souls wherever and whenever they are seen.
CD RECORDING MINISTRY: We now have 120 Filipino MP3 Gospel messages in 12 separate CD volumes. Our Gospel CDs are now in circulation in 23 countries and territories where there are thousands of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), namely: U.S.A., Guam, Hawaii, Canada, U.K., Italy, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman. Please pray that the Lord’s name be magnified and that our countrymen be won to Christ in these countries.
ONLINE SERMONS: To date, I have already posted 120 of my sermon notes at SermonCentral.com. I also have an audio version for each of those 120 sermons, but they are all in the Filipino language. Sorry, only the sermon notes are in English. If you care to browse or read any of them, you can access my sermon list at: http://www.sermoncentral.com/contributors/rodelio-mallari-sermons-68687.asp.
I would exist very grateful to you if you can put a rating to any of my sermons anywhere from one to five stars. If you wish, I can e-mail you a MS-Word document or a PDF version of any of the 120 sermon notes for your personal Bible study.
SHELTER FOR ORPHANS: Towards the end of December 2010, our building construction progress stopped at 70% completion. My good friend, Pastor Winston White and I travelled separately and personally appealed for help to likeminded brethren here and abroad in hopes of obtaining aid for our Orphanage Project. Praise God, we were able to additionally raise a little over Php 300,000 (US$ 7,000) during the last several months. In view of the more expensive cost of construction materials in remote Guimaras Islands, it was by the grace of the Lord that we were able to presently reach 85% building completion with just our Php 1.3 million total funding accumulated during the last one year. Several of the workmen who laboured in the actual construction were our pastor friends. They were keen on receiving just half the regular work salary as their personal contribution to our project. Honestly, we were reluctant to such an "unfair" pre-arrangement but our brethren insisted. That is why we saved so much on labour costs due to our workmen’s labour of love.
Thanks in advance for your much-needed intercession on these matters of concern.
Though our facilities are yet far from being operational, we now have six orphaned and homeless children under our care. Their names are: Alejandra, Andrea, Regine, Stephanie, Vincent, and a yet unnamed 2-month baby girl. They are temporarily housed in a native hut in Guimaras which was built by the men in Bro. White’s church.
Brethren, if you could share in our burden to make a difference in the future of poor orphans and homeless children, we would be eternally grateful for your prayers and much-needed financial gifts on this behalf. Thank you for whatever you can do!
PUBLIC MINISTRY: We were able to prayerfully pass out about 6,000 Chick tracts during our last outings on the streets of Angeles City (population: 330,000 plus). After the street work, we began receiving several calls and text messages from people responding both positively and negatively to "The Warning," “A Love Story” and “Best Friend” tracts. We also passed on these tract titles to many Muslim traders at the shopping district. There were also several Christians from other churches in the city who said that they were spiritually encouraged and challenged to see us preaching unashamedly out in the open. Incidentally, a passing pastor has even asked our assistance to help him start a street work of their own in their local church. Again, praise God for using our feeble efforts!
CHICK PUBLICATIONS: The first quarter of 2011 saw us produced more comic tract titles in our print shop. This was again made possible through our sales-at-cost combined with some donations by a handful of supporters of our printing ministry. To date, we have 17 in-stock Filipino tract titles plus 4 more in the works. Since 2004, I have already translated and revised a total of 31 Chick tracts into Filipino. We will be printing them all locally as the Lord supplies the ways and means. Our online Tagalog comic tract versions can be accessed and read in full from this link: http://www.chick.com/catalog/tractlistCustomWCovers.asp?q=46&Language=Tagalog.
ARKWORK PUBLICATIONS: Bro. Russell Wright founded Arkwork Publications in Kansas, USA. He and his family were former missionaries in Ukraine (in the former Soviet Union). Theirs is a small and relatively new evangelistic ministry whose sole purpose is to provide comic book Gospel tracts free to printing ministries around the world, thus by-passing the high cost of shipping and customs. Their slogan is appropriately, “Flooding the World with the Gospel.” I am one of their volunteer translators and have been granted full permission to print and distribute all their titles in the future. So far, we have printed “Fire Fighter” into Hiligaynon, another major Philippine language. I have also been translating their 13 existing cartoon tract titles into Filipino during my spare time. The Wright family operates Arkwork Publications from their garage. Their website is at: http://arkworkpublications.com/tracts.html.
CATHOLIC “HOLEY” WEEK: It is traditionally the longest of all Philippine holidays which runs from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday (April 17-24 this year). Roman Catholics blindly reenact Christ's suffering, death, burial, and resurrection without understanding and appropriating the abundant grace wrought by the Lord’s perfect sacrifice. We make the most of this season as Catholics are especially open to Gospel witness and discussions during this season. A batch of 5,000 Filipino “The Empty Tomb” tracts were specially printed by us for distribution in our personal witness, from house to house, street work, mail boxes, bus terminals, shopping malls, schools, etc. As you may already know, the “Holy Week” is a much-awaited annual ritual in the Philippines (Asia's largest Catholic country). It features fasting, abstinence, solemn meditations, chanting, almsgiving, and in extreme cases, blasphemous self-flagellations and crucifixions – complete with nails hammered into the hands and feet!
MILITARY MINISTRY: At the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Baguio City, Benguet Province, one of the superior officers (Lt. Col. Edward Montero) has been doing evangelistic and discipleship work among the cadets there. Brother Montero and his family used to attend our church from 2003-2005 while they were stationed in a nearby military base. I can confirm that he is a faithful soul-winner and a humble brother in Christ. We have just sent him another large supply of Tagalog Chick tracts for prayerful use in his soul-winning efforts. We are also trying to establish a small lending library in his home for the benefit of the cadets. Please pray for the labors of Bro. Montero and his family to have a profound influence in the lives of students at the military academy.
SEAMEN'S MINISTRY: Continue likewise to pray for a dear friend and brother in Christ, Reuben Valdez, a Filipino ship captain whose container vessel presently plies shipping routes from Singapore to Africa. Captain Valdez effectively uses and freely distributes our audio and printed evangelistic materials not only with his Filipino crew aboard but also among the hundreds of other Filipino seamen they meet in various international harbours. Again, we praise God that our humble evangelistic ministries are being extended internationally and inexpensively through our partnership with Bro. Valdez and his Christian shipmates.
CAMPUS MINISTRY: Please continue to pray for our good friends and co-workers in Christ, Arleen Valdez and Gloria Hillman (an ex-Catholic nun) who regularly visit and distribute printed literature, New Testaments, and Bibles to high school students and teachers of 24 public schools. There is a great demand for whole Bibles in our schools. Overall, we were able to supply about 180 used and new Bibles, Testaments and scripture portions during our last free distributions from January to March.
WEEKLY HOME BIBLE STUDIES: Please pray for our on-going weekly Bible studies in the homes and offices. Pray for our co-workers to be effective soul-winners and teachers of God’s word. I have also been patiently doing one on one Bible studies with the Assistant Postmaster of the Angeles City Central Post Office. His name is Efren Garcia, a liberal Methodist, who claims that he is saved but still has doubts about his eternal security. Efren has been showing tremendous interest in serious Bible study. He has of late been asking a lot of theological questions even though I have always attempted to center our discussions on security in Christ and God’s promises.
QUARTERLY LITERATURE MAILING: Between January and March, we were able to dispatch some 30 packets and small parcels to our needy brethren in the Visayas and Mindanao islands. The parcels usually consisted of new or used: Bibles and Testaments, pastoral helps, assorted Christian books, Sunday school materials, comic tracts, printed sermon notes, evangelistic DVDs, and MP3 audio CDs. We could only wish that we were able to send more but the ever rising cost of postage has greatly restricted our capabilities. We praise and thank God for His people who supplied funds to make the last shipping of the packages possible.
BtWoL SERMON FEATURE: Over a year ago we have tied up with an evangelistic ministry called “Bringing the Word of Life.” It has an international outreach which includes Filipino seafarers. My English sermon notes are a regular feature in their BtWoL monthly newsletter which is circulated worldwide. They also duplicate our Filipino MP3 sermon audios and freely distribute them to hundreds of Filipino seamen stationed at two busy ports, one in Vancouver, Canada and another in Scotland. Their website is at: http://www.btwol.com/.
ADDITIONAL PRAYER REQUESTS: We implore you to please take our following needs to the Lord in your prayers and supplications:
1. For the Lord and His word to be ever magnified in our efforts to evangelize the lost and edify saints;
2. For heavenly boldness, wisdom and compassion in everything we say and do as we publish the Gospel;
3. For better health for me even as I work two part-time jobs and minister God’s word at the same time;
4. For many more likeminded brethren to be motivated by the Lord to support our family and ministries;
5. For the Lord’s anointing and power as I speak in churches and do the work of an evangelist;
6. For an electric paper cutting machine that we badly need to facilitate work in our print shop;
7. For a book binding machine that we also badly need to upgrade our print shop equipment;
8. For a fresh supply of used Bibles, Christian books, hymnals, Sunday school materials, etc.;
9. For a used high-speed CD/DVD duplicator and labeling machine that operate on 220 Volts;
10. For a used but working laptop-notebook computer (Windows compatible).
Dear brethren and friends, that will be all for now. Thank you for continually believing in us and the cause of Christ in the Philippines. Our family and compatriots in the Lord send their warmest Christian greetings to you all. Let us all labor faithfully and patiently till the Master comes! We pray for you often at home and in church. Phil. 1:2-6; Heb. 6:10!! Until the next ministry update, we will ever remain...
Faithfully yours in Christ Jesus,
Bro. Rodelio D. Mallari & Family
