The Parsonage Solution

                                       by Pastor Douglas Culver

The original parsonage was constructed at a cost around $3000.00. Originally the home was about 1100 sq. ft. 2 bedrooms, with a third bedroom added, which became the master bedroom. That was in the 1960s, and since then has been home to many pastoral families. The replacement of our parsonage has been an issue for several years. However, with today’s high cost of building material a construction project like this is practically imposable where funding is limited.

Knowing that we would have to eventually remodel or replace the structure we felt it necessary to have a structural study done. When this study was conducted in 2008, it was evident that remodeling was not going to suffice. The study revealed that the plumbing, and electrical systems were beyond repair. The street in front of the church was also altered several years after the house was built. This caused water to pool under the house forming a flood plain, which caused much of the damage to the foundation over time. There were many other problems discovered, among which was black mold growing throughout the house. The study revealed that if the house could be saved the cost would be astronomical. The house has given many years of service, but has become a health and safety hazard, and must be replaced.

About a month ago a modular home was found, and at the same time the possibility of renting a house from the mine was being explored, but the church decided to wait on God to give clear direction in something of a more permanent nature that would allow the pastor’s family to stay near the church. The issue was made a matter of prayer.

The Lord wondrously and openly answered prayer when the house was generously donated to the church by Caribou Incorporated, based out of Idaho. The home is two years old, 76ft. x 32ft., has 4 bedrooms with a huge family room, and living room. How we thank God for His goodness to us in the provision of this home.

The new parsonage needed some cleanup and TLC, but will be ready to occupy when Pastor and Pattie, and Lara, and Emily get home from vacation, in mid June. It is currently situated across town until it can be relocated on our lot. However, we must remove the old house, have some excavation work done, and then have the new house moved. Estimates to complete the project are presently being sought. By faith we would like to raise the funds needed to complete the project within the next 12-18 months. Please join us in praying that this will be accomplished in the Lord’s will and time. Pray also the Caribou Incorporated will enjoy the rich blessing of God for their great generosity. With the proper maintenance and care this structure will serve the needs of First Baptist Church here Bagdad for many, many years. How wonderful to be privilege to be a part of seeing God provide so miraculously.

The Cost

The cost of moving the new parsonage and preparing the lot with utilities is between $10,000 and $12,000.

Please join us in praying that this will be accomplished according to the Lord’s will. If you would like to be a part of this project, you may donate through our PayPal link, given below.
